What Is Your Business Name And How Did You Come Up With:
Lavender Rose Farms LLC . When researching lavender farms in 2013/2014 one of the first products I saw was a lavender-rose honey. I also grew both roses and lavender at the time. My parents both have passed and they also had a passion for roses. So hence the name Lavender Rose Farms.

LAVENDER & OTHER BOTANICALS: We have over 250 lavender plants in 10 different varieties. We plan to add about 100 more plants in 2018. We also grow herbs, roses, peonies &lilacs. We will be planting a butterfly garden, and a heather garden in coming seasons as well as an herb garden. We hope to add a greenhouse as well.
Products include: Lavender goat’s milk soap favors, soy botanical candles, beeswax candles, hand-painted mason jars, wreaths, floral design for weddings and home decor, sachets filled with lavender and other botanicals, consultations on lavender growing & floral design orders, lavender-linen spray, gift baskets. See our Shop for a full line of our creations.
BLACK WALNUTS: Lavender Rose is also a Black Walnut farm. We have many black walnut trees on our property. We take them to a hulling and buying location in the fall. There they are hulled and the nuts used at a well-know Black Walnut product company. We will be posting more details in the fall and where to buy.
How Did You Get Started With Your Business:
I have a background as a medical transcriptionist and editor. I began gardening as a hobby. I saw a neighbors lavender plant and loved it so much I began to plant my own lavender in addition to other plants.
Our little lavender farm originated in 2013 as a small backyard farm in Riverview, Michigan. In 2014, we relocated to Marquette, Michigan. From there we continued to grow lavender and we began making lavender-based products. We initially shared these products with family and friends and received such positive feedback that we later opened an Etsy shop to sell our products. (We still have our Etsy shop)
We relocated back to SE Michigan in 2016. We are now located just outside Monroe, Mi in Frenchtown Township on 2 and 1/4 acres. The back of our property is along the River Raisin. We still have wild grapes growing on our property and along the banks of the river. Our property is scenic and park-like and was originally part of the centennial Knapp farm. Our barn was an existing structure from the Knapp farm. Our property is a ribbon farm. Ribbon farms ( also called strip farms or long lot farms). are long, narrow land divisions, usually lined up along a waterway. In some instances, they line a road. In spring/summer 2017 we transplanted our plants from our downriver home and added 200 new plants. We have approximately 250 plants in about 10 different varieties. This year (2018) we plant to plant about 100 more plants.
What Do You Love Most About The Business:
I love the creativity involved in many of my products such as the floral design and hand-painting. My favorite aspect is the actual caring for plants and designing our future gardens. I enjoy working with customers. I do a lot of consultation online with our Etsy shop for bridal bouquets/wedding parties. I truly enjoy helping our customers achieve their dream designs.
